Current and on-going Enhancements

  • 90% of shower heads in on campus residences are low flow
  • Installing low-flow- high pressure shower heads as shower heads need replacement
  • Replacing the few remaining incandescent lights with florescent lights
  • Reupholstering lounge furniture
  • Reusing parts from broken furniture, appliances, etc, to make repairs
  • Recycling bins on each residence hall floor, recycling dumpster at Washington
  • Replacing broken appliances with Energy Star appliances
  • Replacing standard commodes with water reduction commodes where applicible
  • Use certified “Green” cleaning products and controlling mixture amounts
  • Return old mattresses with each order of new ones – most of the materials are reused and CNU receives a discount on price.
  • With the recommendation of RHA increased the amount of bike parking around residence halls
  • On line housing contracts and forms
  • Addition of grease dumpster for Village retail establishments

Enhancements planned for this year

  • Add a recycling dumpster at Barclay
  • Establish a recycling program with the CNU owned houses
  • Begin the replacement of regular light switches with light sensor switches in trash rooms, recycling rooms, storage rooms, attics and mechanical rooms
  • Incorporation of on line payment with on line housing contracts

Possible Future Enhancements

  • Add another recycling dumpster on East Campus
  • Investigate cost and safety issues of installing light sensors in hallways
  • Monitor individual apartment electrical useage in CNU Apartments and CNU Village
  • Renovate the Santoro heating and cooling system
  • Paperless work order system for staff
  • Increase the number of front loading washers requiring less water and shorter drying times
  • Incorporating Room Condition forms, Health and Safety forms, Personal contract forms etc to on line processes
